Volunteering Requirements
Thank you for your interest in volunteering your time at Our Daily Bread. In order to assure that your volunteer experience is a pleasant one, please review the policies and procedures below before scheduling your hours.
Age Policy
Volunteers must be age 16 and above.
Groups
Due to space limitations in our facility, volunteer opportunities for groups are only available one Saturday a month for Snack Pack preparation. Group volunteer opportunities for special events will be posted when scheduled.
Community Service Policy
- We DO NOT certify or otherwise sign off on court appointed community service hours.
- Service-hour forms for education purposes will be signed after assigned tasks are completed.
Health Code Requirements
- Long hair should be pulled back off the face or a hairnet must be worn.
- Facial hair must be neatly trimmed.
- Volunteers must wear gloves when assisting with food preparation, food service, utensil preparation and food tray disposal.
- Volunteers must wash hands between tasks.
- Volunteers may eat in an assigned area at the discretion of the Chef.
- Volunteers may not work in the kitchen if they are ill.
Dress Code
- Volunteers must wear clean, comfortable clothing.
- Closed-toed shoes are required.
- Short shorts and tube tops are not permitted.
- Aprons are provided.
- No dangly jewelry on the wrists or neck is allowed.
- Cell phone usage is not permitted in the kitchen. If there is an emergency, notify the Chef and step out of the kitchen to take the call.

Ongoing Volunteer Needs for Fall 2012:
Hygiene Distribution
11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Volunteers will hand out hygiene items to our clients. Duties include managing, tracking, and distributing. Great shift for those who only have a short amount of time or who would like to sign up for more than one opportunity.
Daily Food Pickups
Every day ODB receives donations from generous community business. We need volunteers to pick up the food from the provider and bring it to Our Daily Bread. Drivers may need to lift up to 25-30pds. Drivers should have reliable transportation and a backseat or trunk area to haul the donations. It is a good idea to carry a few plastic tubs to keep your car safe from spillage. Pick ups begin around 8:30 am and should arrive at Our Daily Bread by 10: am. Specific details for each day are given on our online calendar.
Volunteer Check-In, Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
This is the perfect job for the person looking for an ongoing volunteer opportunity. Do you like interacting with people? Do you have computer skills? Come in weekly to greet volunteers, help with the registration process, and update profile information in our database.

Kitchen Support, Monday - Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Kitchen support includes food preparation, service, and cleanup under supervision of the Chef or Assistant Chef. Duties may include chopping and general food preparation, as well as serving meals, drinks, and desserts.
Please be prepared to stay the entire shift.
Kitchen Dishwashing Support, Monday - Friday, 10:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Sparkling trays and clean silverware make a good impression on anyone sitting down to enjoy a meal. A clean table setting suggests that good service and wholesome food are important to the establishment.
Join the team responsible for providing clean tableware by volunteering to work on the dishwashing line. Dishwashers must meet the following requirements:

Be strong enough to lift commercial size pots and pans

Have enough stamina to stand or bend for several hours

Be able to transport up to 35 pounds
Working in the dishwashing area might also include loading and unloading trays, silverware and cookware form the sanitizer and returning them to their proper places.
Pantry Management, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Pantry management includes storing and stocking donated food under supervision of the Pantry Manager. This opportunity is for the person who enjoys keeping things neat and tidy. Sort food inventory on shelves and in the walk-in fridge and freezer.
Walmart Inventory, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Volunteers looking for opportunities to work fewer hours would enjoy this job. Tasks include unloading, sorting, and shelving food donations received from Walmart.
Walmart Food Pickup, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Join our "Team Walmart" drivers to transport food donations from the Hickory Creek Walmart (at Swisher and I35). Walmart drivers must meet these requirements:

Own a pickup or SUV

Able to lift 50 pounds

Available one day a week or twice monthly

Program Coordinator, Monday - Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Program Coordinator duties may include assisting with bus passes, job applications, distribution of hygiene items, and mail distribution. Look into this opportunity if you would like to work directly with our clients and can commit to serving in this capacity once a week.

Office Assistant Job Description
Monday - Friday, flexible hours between 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Get an overall view of the "back office" activities at Our Daily Bread while working under the supervision of the Executive Director performing miscellaneous office duties. This opportunity is for someone who can volunteer once a week.
